Button Bracelet

     Quite often demonstrators share new ideas they have discovered with our Stampin' Up! products. Several months ago, Patty Bennett shared a really cute button bracelet made with some now retired buttons. She was kind enough to share a tutorial on how hers was made, so I copied the instructions and filed them away for future reference.
     Recently, my upline, Georgia Caulkins, held a class and invited her downline to attend and make bracelets from the current Stampin' Up! buttons. Isn't this just so cute? It was so much easier to make than I imagined! Next time, though, I'll make mine just a little bit bigger, as I don't like anything snug around my wrists. Thanks to my daughter, Elizabeth, for modeling the bracelet so I could get a good picture.

Blessing of the Backpacks

     Yes, it's back to school time across the country. Some children have already started school, sports practice has started at others, and the first day is just around the corner.
     At church this morning, the minister asked all the children to bring their backpacks to church next Sunday for the "Blessing of the Backpacks" The church we recently attended for many years used to have this ceremony for the kids just before the start of school. A friend of mine made cute tags for the kids to hang on their backbacks. So, being the creative person that I like to be (or borrowing of ideas,lol), I asked the minister if I could do this for the kids. She really liked the idea, and asked if I could maybe include a few extras for the school supplies purchased for local drives. These were pretty easy to make in just one afternoon. This picture shows the front and back and these are also laminated for longer wear.
     These tags are made using a combination of current and retired products, which I will do when giving something away or making cards to sell, but not when I'm showing off new products to my customers.
     What I really like best about this kind of tag is giving children a reminder that God will be watching over them during school, and their church is standing with them in spirit during their day.
     May God bless all the children as they return to school, and may you have fun creating something to remind them that you are there for support and God is always there, too.

Wedding Gift and reception decorations

Our niece was recently married in Montana and had a reception in her hometown of Kewanee, Illinois. She'd been posting pictures from her wedding on Facebook, so I knew I wanted to make a special framed page for them as a wedding gift. I found this frame at a big box store and knew it would work perfectly for what I wanted. The paper I used in the background is now retired (boo), but is so elegant. The white on white can be enhanced by sponging ink to bring out the pattern. It beautifully frames the picture. I used a similar paper for the name frame in the top right corner. I sponged on the color, then ran it through the printer, and finally cut it out on the Big Shot using the Top Note Die. I added rows of rhinestones for the final elegant touch.
I also had the privilege of making the table decorations for the tables. I didn't end up using my origianl plan, but came up with an alternate plan that worked out well. Stampin' Up! has a new Pennant Punch that I used to make an awesome mini pennant for each table. Getting it to stand was a bit tricky, but I found a way to make it work with the help of a sales clerk at a local store. Each pennant has a letter to spell out the couples' names. It was really cute up close.

The final decoration was a banner for the wall and simply said Congratulations Becky and Taylor.
The Bride was quite satisfied with how everything turned out. and fortunately I had enough supplies on hand to finish the project.

Framed Gift Giving

I was recently asked by a friend to make frames as wedding and anniversary gifts. These feature the couples last name and the wedding and/or anniversary date. She liked them so well, that she asked me to make her granddaughter a frame with her first name. The anniversary frame does have non-StampinUp paper and the birthday frame uses non-stampinup die cuts. I'm pretty pleased at how they turned out. They are also reasonably inexpensive to make, so if you're looking for a nice gift, consider one of these. I charge $10 for each 5 x 12 personalized frame. Let me know what your think.

Graduation Invitations - A Hybrid solution

     My son, Jesse will be graduation soon, and because we didn't have the opportunity to order any of the 'official' graduation paraphernalia, I only made the invitations for his graduation party. I started out in My Digital Studio for the main 'attraction'. I knew I wanted neat printing for all the information, so I chose a stamp set called 'Introducing'. A text box was added as a layer on top of the stamp set, with the text typed in according to the lines. I adjusted the line spacing a little, though it didn't line up perfectly. Now, what to do with the background? We're talking an 18 year old boy, and frilly and fussy just won't do! So, I came across another stamp set called 'Basic Black Texture', changed the color to Real Red, and adjusted the size to fit my project. Yeah! He liked it!
   Now to get enough. I grouped all the parts of my project, then simply copied and pasted it three more times on the whole page, exported to a .jpeg file and printed. Took a few steps to make it look the way I wanted it, but the final result was worth the effort.
     Jesse wanted Red and Black for his cards, so for the finishing touch, I mounted the printed invitation on black cardstock and added silver eyelets in the middle of each side. I liked the look, and Jesse liked the finished product. Mission accomplished!

My Digital Studio Mother's Day Layout

I wanted the girls I babysit to be able to give something nice to their Mom for Mother's Day, so I started out by taking some cute pictures of them with my cell phone last week while we waited for my son to finish baseball practice. There was a beautiful flowering tree, so I took a footlong branch full of blooms and managed to get great pictures of the girls with the flowers by their faces. The background of the page is simply a picture of the blooms on the tree, with the opacity changed to nearly 20%. I added the Mother's Day stamp and Baroque Motif stamp to accent Mom, corner punches at the top, mats around all the pictures, and connected the pictures with Vintage Flowers. The corners of the pictures and the corner punches are all accented with rhinestones. The Mother's Day verse is one I found online.
This was so easy to do, and took very little time to complete. If I had thought ahead on this project, I would have had it printed by Stampin' Up! professional printing service. Instead I printed it locally, which still looked nice, but wasn't centered on the page quite as well. You can have as much fun as I did making your own projects. Scrapbooking Fun

     The last two weekends, I've had the privilege of being able to scrapbook some old pictures from my childhood. I've been somewhat reluctant to use all Stampin' Up! product with scrapbook pages, as I was trying to use up old papers I had, plus I hated to waste my 'good' papers' with trial and error on scrapbook pages. Well, now I have quite a bit of retired paper, so I've decided to start using as much Stampin' Up! product as I can. This page shows some old post cards I pulled from an old magnetic photo album. (Oh, the horrible things that stuff does to your pictures!!!)
     I wanted to be able to view the back side of the postcards, so I took a small strip of cardstock, folded it in half lengthwise and adhered the back side to my page. The front of the postcard is adhered just under the front side of the folded cardstock and can now be flipped open like a page to see the back of the card. I combined old and new product, using some retired colors and new stamps and punches. The flowers may not match the theme of baseball on the postcards, but I thought they added a nice touch to the page. I really like the two border punches put together, as well.
     I'll get another opportunity to scrapbook for a day in a couple of weeks. I've been asked to be a vendor at another local scrapbook crop on March 19. Call me at (309) 221-0978 for more details. Time is 9 a.m. to midnight, so plenty of time to get some work done!

Sew Suite Bag #2

After completing the first Scallop Square Bag using the Sew Suite fabric found in the Occasions Mini Catalog, I had a few squares left over, plus some unused fabric, so decided to make a smaller version of the previous bag. This time I added a closing flap decorated with flowers cut from the same fabric and the Flower Folds Die, then centered a large button on the flower. I haven't decided if I will use this bag for myself, or just use it for display, then sell it. My younger daughter thinks I ought to give it to her. What to do, what to do? Well, I guess I'll just have to make a decision, but not until I use it for display first. Look for me at the Knights of Columbus in April. I'll pass along the details later.

Sew Suite Bag Complete!

As promised, here is the bag I made from the Sew Suite Designer fabric introduced in the Occasions Mini Catalog. This is a special gift for my Aunt, an avid seamstress. The fabric features pattern figures, buttons, and sewing stitches. The bag will be great for using as a purse, or for just a tote when going to sewing classes. I do still have to do some trimming of extra threads, but I think it turned out rather cute.
There is another fabric choice called Springtime Vintage Designer Fabric that also has coordinating Designer Series Paper and stamps. Wonderful gifts and coordinating cards, scrapbooks, and decor are just an idea away.

Moving ON!!

     Life seems to have gotten in the way (A LOT) over the last few months, but now I'm getting back into a semi-routine with the kids finally in school after a one month winter break! And since I never got around to posting all those Christmas card samples, and with Valentines day just around the corner, I decided it's just time to MOVE ON!
     The Occasions Mini Catalog is now in full swing with some beautiful new stamps, designer series paper, and of course my favorite accessories for the Big Shot. This card uses a combination of old and new. The stamp set has been a staple for quite some time. God's Blessings is a wonderful collection of timeless sayings. The lace ribbon is from the Holiday Mini. I'm not totally sure it is still available, though there is a sample using it in the new catalog. The New is the designer series paper, which I think is a beautiful collection of vintage looking prints. Did you notice the border around the paper? It's a little hard to see here, but is the new Framed Tulips embossing folder. The bow is made using a vintage brad to hold the folds of the bow together. I'm just not that great at tying bows, so this provides a great looking option.

Christmas Card Share

I'm a little (OK, a lot!) late in the promised card shares, so here are a couple of the cards I received in a card swap. The first is from Kim Schultz, and the second is from a long time acquaintance, Lori Helvick. Both are fellow demonstrators in an upline group. Tag! You're it!

Tag group

I recently joined a group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators in a Tag group. We send 'tags' to each other with the intent to share design ideas. These are the cards I designed as our family Christmas cards, with the alternate color for the tag group. I'd love to know what you think about the different color combination. It's definitely not a traditional Christmas color, but I like the way it turned out.


Family Christmas card

The stamp set used is 'Come to Bethlehem' and is heat embossed with Silver embossing powder and layered on brushed silver card stock. The front of the card is also embossed with the Petals-A-Plenty embossing folder. (Have I told you lately that I love using my Big Shot?) The inside is stamped with the verse using Platinum shimmer paint. As a final touch, I spritzed the whole front of the card with Champagne Shimmer Paint. This is done by mixing the paint with alcohol in a small spray bottle. You can't see the shimmer here, but in real life, it's beautiful.

Gift giving and packaging for the Holidays

     Have you sometimes wondered about a creative way to package a simple gift, like a small hand cream? Why not make a gift box designed especially for your gift? I've seen some very creative and decorative gift packaging ideas in the last few weeks and wanted to create something myself, so this was my idea of an easy to make and simple design. The box was made using a 5" x 12" piece of patterns designer series paper in Rich Razzleberry. It was almost a perfect match for the Avon hand cream for which it was made. (They offer cute packaging for special holidays on hand creams and lip balms, so I always stock up for the year)
     I made another small gift bag for the lip balm. It is soooo cute, but alas, I did not come up with the design. It looks like a miniature purse! You'll have to come by the Holiday Extravaganza this Saturday to see it. I don't want to give away ALL the surprises!
     The Holiday Extravaganza is this Saturday, November 20, from 2 to 6, at the Knox Agri Center, South Soangetaha Rd., Galesburg. It's across the road from the Harley Davidson Store. Christmas Tree Centerpiece

This year, I felt I needed extra inspiration for my holiday projects, so I signed up for several 12 Weeks of Christmas shares from other demonstrators. They all offered tutorials for the projects, which I very much appreciate, as they are a lot of work to put together. This centerpiece was designed by Carla Brasher - The Southern Stamper. Mine is slightly different, as the styrofoam cone is a different size and I didn't have the same Designer Series Paper, but I really like the way it turned out. It will make a great decorator piece for Christmas. Although I cannot share the exact instructions for this, I can show you how it is done. Polished Stone meets Elegant Lines

     Do you see the Gold, Rich Razzleberry, and Elegant Eggplant colors all swirled together? This is called the Polished Stone Technique. I just love all the color combinations you can make using this technique. They're all just beautiful.
     I saw a card using a different color of Polished Stone and embossed using the Elegant Lines Embossing Folder and knew I had to re-create this card with my own personal stamping style, of course. I added jewels basic rhinestones on the left side for a little extra sparkle. I stamped the Perfect Punches stamp set with White Craft Ink on the Elegant Eggplant, then punched it out with the Scallop Oval Punch and attached it to the Decorative Label Punch in Brushed Gold. This is not your average Thank You card, but is perfect for a special occasion. Best of all, you just need to change the stamp for a totally different occasion!

Let Mr. Owl help you keep your page!

I've seen others use very large paper clips to make bookmarks, but didn't venture into the idea very far until recently. While shopping at the office supply store, I found some 4" gold paperclips, and decided to try for myself. I liked the results so much, that I decided my card club members should try it, as well. They were a big hit! I've also ordered several dozen silver paperclips that should be arriving by early next week. Guess what ideas I'll be thinking of doing?

Of course, you don't have to use the owl punch, but isn't he cute? There are many different ideas and color combinations available to suit just about any taste. What a cute gift idea for that special reader in your life!

Matchbox Die Dresser

Looking for a cute gift idea for the ladies in your life? This simple, yet elegant 'dresser' is perfect for those small trinkets that collect on the dresser or desk. It isn't really that difficult to make, just a little time consuming. The main supply used here is the Big Shot DieCut Machine, along with the Bigz XL Matchbox Die. The 'mirror' backing is the Bigz Top Note Die. The 'mirror' itself is made using the XL Decorative Label Punch, then embossed using the Vintage Embossing Folder. The 'dresser knobs' are the Fire and Ice brads from last year's catalog. The decorating possibilities for this are endless!

Fancy Favor Die

One of the things I like most about the Big Shot and Dies offered by Stampin' Up! is the versatility! You can make so many different things with just a few tools! These pictures show two projects I recently completed using the Bigz XL Fancy Favor Die. This die creates a box with a fancy finish to the top, which may not seems like much at first, but in reality, can be used for many different projects.

This picture on the top left is an example of a luminary I designed recently for my monthly Card Club, and is one of four projects we made. The 'candle' on the inside is battery operated, so it's perfectly safe for this paper luminary. These candles can be purchased at many different locations, especially craft stores.

The next project is cut from a metal sheet and lined with Designer Series Paper, which adds a little strength and stability. Again, the metal sheets were purchased elsewhere, and you'll probably be seeing more projects made with different colors. This particular project is made to sit on a desk for pencils or notepaper, and is a gift for someone special. For added pizazz, I also ran the front of the metal through the Big Shot using an embossing folder. Won't it look nice on the office desk? I also personalized the front by adding an initial, using the same DSP from the inside lining. Are you looking for some unique gifts for that special someone in your life? Tomorrow is the first of this season's Card Club meetings, and one of the projects we will be making is this 12 x 12 Fall Scrapbook page. I will need to be purchasing some new 12 x 12 cardstock soon. To make enough supplies for these pages, I had to use some recently retired colors to make this layout.

Why are we doing scrapbook pages is a Card Club? Most of my members are scrapbookers more than card makers, so it makes sense to show them how to incorporate stamping in that craft. Of course, I find it hard NOT to use my Big Shot Die Cut Machine in my paper crafting, and used two different die cuts on this page.

Happy 18th Birthday, Jesse

Tomorrow is my son, Jesse's 18th birthday, so I wanted to create something for him. He and his younger brothers love to ride their bikes and ride the ramps, etc., so I thought this retired BMX bike stamp would be perfect for him! The background is stamped with the Extreme Elements stamp set (still current) on a layered top note. The Happy Birthday sign is one of the new builder wheels, rolled onto white satin ribbon. What do you think? Will it suit an 18 year old? Let me know.

This simple little card is made using some of the new In Colors, Poppy Parade, Peach Parfait, and Pear Pizzazz, along with just a little In Color DSP. Add your own sentiment stamp on the front, maybe a different punch pattern to suit your taste, or even a different color combination, and you have a card ready for any occasion!

Let me show you how simple it is to make your own hand crafted and personalized greeting cards. It's so much fun to do!

Upcoming Christmas Card Swap

Next Tuesday I will be participating in my first Stampattics team meeting and will be 'swapping' cards with fellow demonstrators. I'm very excited! I wanted something unique to trade and knew I wanted to use this new stamp set that is now offered in the 2010 Holiday Mini Catalog that just started yesterday. This card design is called a side stair step card. You may not be able to see them very clearly, but in the center of each poinsettia is a half pearl. These are now available on a sheet with different sizes, and really add elegance to your project.

Where has the summer gone?

I can't believe it! The kids go back to school in just one short week! If you noticed my post last week, you'll see that Illinois is having a 5% Sales Tax Holiday now until August 15. Take advantage of the savings and get those school supplies ordered!

As I prepared for the Open House last month, I made several new samples. One of the stamp sets in the Summer Mini Catalog is called Elements of Style, and while I really, really liked the projects that other demonstrators created, I didn't want to buy such a wonderful stamp set and only be able to use it for a short time. The Summer Mini ends August 30! Much to my surprise, that set was carried over into the new 2010-2011 Idea Book & Catalog, so of course I had to have it! I have seen so many color combinations using this set. It is so versatile! I chose the new Cherry Cobbler, since I was trying to showcase the new colors that were recently introduced. I love the way it turned out, don't you?

Illinois Tax Holiday

WOW!!!! Illinois is having a 5% tax holiday from August 6 through 15, 2010. This means that my customers can order 'school supplies' and only pay 2.5% tax because the state is deducting 5%. Monogram Sweet

I want to thank everyone that came to my New Catalog Open House on Thursday. It was wonderful to spend one on one time with you talking and sometimes teaching something new.
This is one of the new cards I had on display. It was so simple to make! Tone on tone colors for the base of the card, then a simple silver embossed letter on a scallop circle. Perfect for a quick note card or even thank you cards. I think this would make a great gift for any occasion: graduation, showers, birthdays, weddings, etc. Any color combination would work. Almost Time!!

     I've been super busy making new projects for everyone to view at my New Catalog Open House! I've got about a dozen so far in the last 3 days. Today I'm concentrating on cleaning the house to make it ready, and then if time allows, I'll do some more creating!
     The Summer has been more busy than usual with the two younger boys playing a lot of extra baseball and going to camps. Baseball is now officially done for the summer, and they're at camp again, so I've had a little extra time this week.
     There will be lots to see when you come to my home Thursday from 11 to 8. The address is 523 Lawrence Ave., Galesburg, IL. My display board with all the new projects will be up. There will be plenty of tools to try, including the Big Shot Die Cut Machine (my personal favorite!) Happy Father's Day

Father's Day is tomorrow, so I thought I'd better dig through my stash of cards and find the one I designed for my husband. This was also one of the cards we made at May's Card Club. I used retired DSP, retiring card stock, punches and the Big Shot. The color combinations in this paper are wonderful, incorporating several colors, while still being fairly simple, clean and neat. The card opens in the center to another envelope holding the sentiment card. Pretty neat, huh?
I'm keeping pretty busy this summer babysitting and attending baseball games, so I'm not getting much creating done, but I'm planning on having a class and New Catalog Open House the week of July 19, so be watching for more details.

Stamps will be available until June 30, as they are produced by Stampin' Up! All other items will be 'While supplies last". Please remember that with the new Color Renovation, all of the color groups are being discontinued. That doesn't mean that you can't get your favorite color, although several have already sold out. If in doubt, call me. If the color is already sold out, I may have a few sheets available from my own retiring stock of colors, though I can't sell them until July 1. Keep on stamping. Graduation and My Digital Studio

     Tomorrow is graduation day for Galesburg High School Class of 2010. My daughter, Elizabeth, is among those graduating, and this is the Open House invitation I designed for her using My Digital Studio from Stampin' Up! It's pretty much the same layout that I had planned to make, but didn't have time. The card took literally, a few minutes to design and complete, then print.

Custom Card Request

Several months ago, I started having conversation with my cousin in North Carolina about making graduation cards for her son (our Godson). It could not be 'CUTE' or frilly, it had to be very masculine and include the school mascot, school colors and a symbol for baseball and football. I downloaded the mascot from the school website, then used 3 different stamp sets to complete the card. They are Introducing, Just Baseball and Just Football. I even personalized the football helmet with the jersey number. I like the finished card and layout, and I know my cousin was happy with it. She sent me a note saying the cards look 'awesome'. How's that for a compliment?

Bag in a Box

One of my favorite things to make with Stampin' Up! products is a box or 3-D project. This isn't quite complete, as it still needs the tabs on top for the ribbon. I'm almost done with my 'hurry and use retiring product' phase, as I'm approaching my final card club for this season. I'll be holding some classes this summer, and will start card club again this August.
This is a cute and not too difficult project that we'll be making at Card Club on Tuesday. The 'Box' is on the bottom. The 'Bag' is wrapped around the sides of the box, then closed in the back. An extra layer is attached to the outside of the bag and uses one of the border punches. The 'Flower' on the front looks almost like cloth in real life, but is actually made from cardstock. Both the Bag in a Box and the flower are originally from other demonstrators. Would you like to learn how to make this and other projects? Contact me for more information at 221-0978. I just love the Polished Stone technique! It's so fun and easy to do! Every sheet you do is unique, even when you use the same color combinations. This uses Stampin' Up! Tempting Turquoise, YoYo Yellow, and Pink Passion. These bright colors look very soft when combined with this technique on glossy cardstock. Again, I'm trying to use some of my retiring stock, so for my background piece I chose Barely Banana. The top layer is Regal Rose, since I am fresh out of many Bold Brights. The colors coordinate quite well, don't you think? The Buttons are from the Fresh Favorites 1 collection. The Faux stitching is done using the White Gel Pen with a ruler as a guide. Thank you to Tamara Black, a member of Late Night Stampers, for her card inspiration. I CASE'd her card, but changed some of the colors and buttons. We'll be making this card at the Tuesday night Card Club next week. I look forward to seeing everyone there.

Life is Special

My friend and neighbor is facing surgery and possible cancer, so I made her a special card using a stamp that she bought me several months ago. It's not Stampin' Up!, but it's a very nice sentiment that I thought fitting. This design is called a 'Gatefold' card. It opens in the center instead of the usual top, bottom, or side. The center flower is a Level 2 Hostess stamp from the new Summer Mini Catalog and matches the scallop circle punch. The circle is cut using the Circle Scissor Plus, and the large scallop is the scallop circle #2 Die, cut with the Big Shot Die Cut Machine. I love using this machine. It is so versatile.

The sentiment on the front is from the Curvy Verses stamp set. The inside of the card uses the new Presto Patterns Specialty paper, also found in the Summer Mini. This paper is white on white, and meant to be colored to match your project. I cut out the scallop envelope die and then sponged the ink on the front of the envelope and inserted the card with the friend message.

Happy Grad

With my daughter Elizabeth's graduation just around the corner on May 30, I wanted to have a card design using the new Happy Grad stamp and also use some retiring colors. This particular card pretty much matches the Galesburg High School Streaks colors of silver, gold and black. The card base actually uses Bordering Blue, though it looks almost silver in some light. The top layer is Crushed Curry. This could easily be adapted to any color combination or any occasion you need.
There's still time to get your graduation sets from the Summer Mini catalog before graduation. I can also design and make a set of cards or invitations for you. Just give me a call.

Wonderful Mother

     This coming Sunday is Mother's Day. Do you have a card ready for that special Mom in your life?
     I've been experimenting with designs for this special event recently. This is one I wanted to use for card club last week and didn't because I did not have a spray bottle to use to spritz on the sparkle I wanted it to have. This is much more elegant in real life. The background color and ink used is Cameo Coral. This is such a pretty color and I'm sad to see it is retiring at the end of next month.

     May 1 is May Day around the world! It's also the beginning of National Scrapbooking Month. See the flyer to the right for this month's specials to promote scrapbooking.      The card shown here is a very simple card we did at Card Club last week. It uses another soon to be retired In-Color, Dusty Durango, Patterns DSP, and the matching Polka Dot Ribbon. The 'fan mail' is stamped in Dusty Durango on Crushed Curry. Such an easy card to put together.
   Be sure to check out the Fond Farewell Colors, as well as the Color Renovation list to the right. The new colors being introduced are beautiful rich colors that are certain to please.

Retiring Orchid Opulence

Card Club was Tuesday night. While preparing and planning, I looked through my collection of cardstock and Designer Series Paper, deciding what needed to be used up before the colors bid a fond farewell. Orchid Opulence is one of those colors and I still had some Shades of Spring DSP left, so I decided this would make a good substitute card from my original planned card. I wanted to make the MOM card from my previous post, but decided this was a better choice. The stamp set, Messages for MOM, and the embosslit, Scalloped Heart of Hearts, are both found in the Occasion Mini Catalog that expires on Friday. Ready for some of the New/Old In-Colors? I've liked this color combination since I first put them together last year, so when I found out the Pacific Point is coming back, and I still had some of the cardstock, I was very happy. My original plan was to use this card for my card club, but decided I'd better stick with current colors for now. Instead, I'll put this to good use and give it to my mother. She truly is always there for me, helping me around the house when I'm feeling overwhelmed with my many responsibilities, and helping out with the kids when needed. The background uses the new Lattice folder and makes a beautiful texture. My mother loves nature, so will appreciate the little birdie.

Medallion

     The Medallion background stamp is one that has been extremely popular, but I've been a little uncomfortable with it, mainly because I just haven't used many background stamps. This has a very striking image that just begs to be seen. I chose to make this in Cameo Coral. I love coral colors and this one will be retiring soon, so I wanted to be sure and use it. I'm rather pleased with the way it turned out, though I might have tried putting the image off-center just a little bit more. Maybe add a little shimmer? What do you think?
     I punched a jumbo grommet in the center of the medallion, and added the sentiment over the scallop oval punch. We'll be making this card for Card Club on Tuesday night.
   Don't forget that the Occasions Mini Catalog expires on April 30, so get your order in soon! Also, be sure to check your supply of favorite card stock colors and inks. Are they on the Fond Farewell list shown in the right-hand column? If they are, you'll want to stock up while you can. On June 1, they will only be available while supplies last!

Awash with Flowers and Spring Promotion

     During the month of April (just ten more days), Stampin' Up! is offering a sneak preview of the Awash with Flowers two-step stamp that will be offered in the new 2010/2011 Idea Book & Catalog. There is also a special discount being offered off of select two-step Stampin sets from the current catalog. For more information, check out the link to the right of this post called Two-Step into Spring.
     This card used the Awash with Flowers stamp set and the current In-Colors, Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, and Crushed Curry, with some Basic Black to outline the Whisper White.
   You may be asking: What is two-step stamping? It literally means there are two steps to complete the stamping process. The first is the outline stamp (notice the black outlines of the flowers and stems), then the 'fill in the color' stamp. I probably could have matched the lines better if I had used the Stamp-A-Majig, but I don't always like the extra fuss for something this simple. You could also choose to use a watercolor technique to 'paint' the flowers.
   Remember that many of the colors will be retiring at the end of June, and after June 1, they will be only be available 'While Supplies Last', so if you have a favorite color, make sure you stock up while you can!

Simply Adorned Charms

     I've been eyeing the Simply Adorned Charms since they were introduced last fall. The charms are a little expensive, so I was hesitant to invest in one. I finally decided to order one with my Summer Mini Pre-order earlier this month. I'm really glad i did! They are such a versatile piece of jewelry, you just wouldn't believe! Would you believe the flowers are a stamped image?
      Although I didn't picture it here, I inserted my initial on the opposite side in turquoise. The inserts are easily replaced and can be updated as often as you feel the need or for any occasion or season. Wouldn't you like to own such a versatile piece of jewelry for your collection? Chains are available, but you can also substitute ribbon or satin rope. The sky's the limit!

Another Design for the Scallop Square Purse

A few weeks ago, I showed you the purse I made using Stampin' Up! Big Shot and Scallop Square Die. My friend and neighbor liked mine so well, she asked to borrow my tools and make her own. This is her finished product. At first, it doesn't appear to be different than mine, except of course for the colors. If you look closely, though, you will see strings at the sides. This purse is made two panels wide instead of one, and she wanted to be able to close it to be less accessible to theft. She asked about using eyelets, but they weren't really big enough, so I suggested the Jumbo Eyelets offered by Stampin' Up! There are 6 of these eyelets on each side, then a thin cord threaded through them to tie it closed. She used the spring closer (for lack of the proper term) like what is used on backpacks. This is a great design. If you'd like to see this up close and personal, I will have it on display this Saturday the the 3rd Annual Spring Home Party Extravaganza at the Knights of Columbus, 1556 E. Fremont St., Galesburg, from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m.
There will be nearly 30 different Home-Based business demonstrators and consultants offering a wide variety of products, so come on out if you can. Many of us will be offering specials for that day only. I, personally, will be offering free shipping that day only. That would be a great opportunity to order any of the card stock or Designer Series Papers that will be discontinued at the end of June. Graduation is around the corner

Believe it or not, graduation is just around the corner. Do you have a card for that special graduate in your life? I copied a layout from another demonstrator, and the grad card idea from a good friend and card club member (Thanks, Kim!) Announcing: The New Color Renovation

Stampin' Up! announced this week that there is a new Color Renovation coming on July 1 along with the new 2010/2011 Idea Book & Catalog. Why announce so early? There's good reason for that. You as a customer will have a chance to 'stock up' on your favorites before they retire, and I will have the opportunity to 'use up' some of the retiring colors. This makes sense to me as I've invested quite a bit of money for stamp pads and card stock. You will see more of the retiring colors in the next two months as I try to deplete my stock of supplies. What will I do with what's left? Well, I'm considering a couple of options, one of which will be selling what I have at a reduced cost. That will allow me to invest in new supplies. Of course, I may just hang on to a few of my favorites.

     Looking for a unique card style for a special occasion? This is actually what I would call a tri-fold card. The flap with the sentiment opens to the right, while the other side of the card opens normally to the left. The sentiment is from the Fun & Fast Notes. I copied the card layout from a demonstrator on Late Night Stampers, but changed most everything else to make it my own design. One of my friends commented that this would make a great graduation card. All you need to do is change the colors to suit. In my case, it would be Black Silver and Gold. This was really a fun card to make, although it took a little bit to figure out the measurements for all the layers!
      If you look through my blog, you will see several different resources for ideas. Some are other demonstrators, while some are from the individual catalogs. You can't go wrong either way.

Movers & Shapers Oval Die

Stampin' Up! Movers and Shapers is a die I haven't used in over a year. While trying to come up with card designs for my Card Club last week, I decided to bring this one out. Though I haven't used it in a while, I have occasionally thought about it because Stampin' Up! has come out with two new sets of shaped dies to use with it. One was a holiday set offered in the Holiday Mini catalog, and the other is a set offered in the Occasions Mini. This catalog is still good until April 30 and has the cutest things! I felt this card needed a little something in the bottom half, so I added the butterfly cut from the Sweet Pea DSP using the Bigz Beautiful Butterfly Die, then embossed using the texturz plate.

Explosion Card

How about something new and unusual for a fun card? Would you like something that 'explodes' when you open the card? Before you open this, it looks like the average card, though decorated for something special, ut upon opening this card, you get a pleasant surprise. The special paper folds allow it to 'explode' when the card is opened. I have to thank another demonstrator for showing this idea at a recent scrapbook crop I attended. I didn't ask for the directions then, but came home and asked others. Thanks to yet another demonstrator, Cindy, for providing a template.

Big Shot Purse

Well, I finally got it done! What? You don't know what I'm talking about, do you? Remember the teaser from a week or so ago with the fabric cut into scallop squares? Well, I finally finished my project. It's a Purse! Actually, I'm thinking of using it to carry catalogs. What do you think? I really like the bright colors. In case you're wondering, I deliberately sewed the seams 'backwards'. Since I used Stampin' Up's Scallop Square Die and the Big Shot to cut the fabric, I wanted the scallops to show. I've seen so many different versions of this made with various color schemes and sizes. I'd really like to know your opinion, so feel free to leave a comment. I do moderate the comments before they are posted, so don't be alarmed if it doesn't show up right away.

Abundant Hope - reborn

While making up some extra cards for my Card Club members that were absent, I decided to make this card in a brighter color. I originally wanted YoYo Yellow, but didn't have it handy, so decided to try Melon Mambo, since it was already cut and on my worktable. What do you think. I like a brighter color. It reminds me that Spring is coming (one of these cold, snowy days). I also added the Mother's Day sentiment from the 'Messages for MOM' stamp set. I'll definitely be using that set for some upcoming events.

And for those of you checking back to see what I did with the scallop squares, please be patient. I am finally starting to put them together and hope to have a finished product in the next couple of days.

     Wow, what a busy month it has been! We've been struggling with some not so great behaviors from our oldest son the last few weeks, but he seems to have settled down for now. The last week has seen a great deal of my time spent at the hospital with my youngest son who developed an infection in a cut he got several weeks ago! Not something I want to repeat! On Board Heart Books - Complete

I promised I would share the On Board Heart Books when they were finished. It's been really hectic around here lately, so I didn't finish by Valentine's Day, but here are samples of two of the completed books. I wanted to send a message of God's Love and being together as a family. Several different Designer Series Paper patterns were used. This isn't a message just for Valentine's Day only. I included pictures of our children on the day they were officially adopted, plus a more recent picture of all the kids together. I used several different scripture passages, as well, that all convey the love we feel for our children, and that we want them to have.

On Board Heart Books

Did you know that you can buy Chipboard Books from Stampin' Up! ? The really unique part of this is that you can decorate your book according to your own taste! There are shaped books and regular spiral bound books. The hearts featured here are from the On Board Heart Book, that when finished, will be held together with a chain (provided). I'm currently working on 6 of these books for my family for Valentine's Day. The red pages will be for the cover and I'm using several different colors for the inside pages. When I get it finished, I'll take a picture of the completed projects to share with you.
I'm still working on the scallop square project. I just haven't had time to finish. The snow day yesterday and kids's appointments today really put me behind. These have now become my "Late Night Stamper" projects. Keep checking back for updates.

Scallop Squares...in fabric?

Scallop square...in fabric? Why would I be cutting out fabric using Stampin' Up! Scallop Square Die? Well, here is a sample of the fabric I am using for a very unique project. No, I did not create this idea. Another, very talented Stampin' Up! demonstrator found a way to expand the use of this die using fabric. What did she create? If you're a visiting demonstrator, you probably can guess. If not, you'll just have to keep checking back to see what happens with all these scallop squares. I think you'll like what you see! Give me a few days to clear my sewing area a little and put these together; then come visit me again. While you're waiting and anticipating, why not relax with some stamping, crafting, or scrapbooking.

The print layer is from the new Sending Love Specialty Designer Series Paper from the Occassions Mini Catalog. I also used 4 punches, the new Extra Large Fancy Flower and the Pinking Hearts Border punches from the Occassions Mini, and the Word Window and Modern Label punches from the 2009 - 2010 Idea Book & Catalog. The butterfly is the Stampin' Up! Beautiful Wings Embosslit Die, also from the Occasions Mini.

Bella Bleu - A different side

I shared yesterday that I had made another card using the Bella Bleu Designer Series Paper. This is it! I've also used one of the new clear mount stamp sets for the front. These new stamps sets are so easy to use. What makes them different from other clear stamps? Stampin' Up! clear mount stamps are still rubber stamps! The difference is a clear acrylic block for mounting. The stamps are also stored in a 'DVD like' case unmounted. You get the quality of rubber stamping, plus the ability to see where you are stamping! I've never had much luck stamping with acrylic stamps. I personally don't think the stamped image is as good as rubber stamps. Now you can have rubber stamp quality using acrylic blocks. These blocks are better, as well. You get a nice thick block with rounded beveling on the sides for ease of use.

Call me to see the difference for yourself. I promise you'll like what you see

Bella Bleu Anniversary

Friends of ours recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. I've been thinking for a few weeks now of a really nice design for their card. I've been experimenting with the Bella Bleu Designer Series Paper after seeing a multi-layered card using it with a new stamp set. I'll show you that one later. This is from the same paper set and used the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set inside the Vanilla Hodgepodge Hardware. The Ballet Blue cardstock and the DSP also are punched with the new Scallop Border Punch.

Circle Circus

Birds and Clouds

Isn't the bird on this card really cute? Can you tell how it's created? It is called an Extra Large Two- Step Bird, and no it is not a stamp. It is one of the wonderful new punches available beginning today. It can be yours by shopping the New Occassions Mini Catalog. I did a demonstrator no-no by using a retired stamp for the swirls on the corners, but I like the effect. The cloud background is created by using scallop circles, attaching in a random fashion, and spongeing the page in layers. Pretty easy to do, and if you're in my Card Club, you'll be doing this technique this month. You'll also take home your own cloud template to use for stamping or scrapbooking. Gift Tags

It's hard to believe it's Christmas Eve already. Where has the time gone? I think I have all my shopping done. Now I just need to finish wrapping and tagging the gifts. I don't put anything under the tree for my kids until after they go to bed tonight. It drives them crazy, not knowing what they might get. They can't even guess! I had decided that I wanted to make gift tags this year instead of buying them, so these are what I made. I also made some special 'Santa' tags. Keep reading for more information on how these were created.

Christmas Gifts

A few months ago, I saw several versions of ceramic tile coasters, and knew I wanted to make my own. Well, I checked the prices of those demonstrated and decided they were not within my budget, so I found several glazed tiles for a lot less money. I finally decided to try my hand at making a few designs. and this is the result. These were made especially for members of my husband's family, with thier interests in mind. I made 4 sets of 4 coasters. What do you think?

Now that I know more about what I'm doing with these, I'll probably try again with some new patterns. If you are interested in learning how to make these, let me know. They're not difficult, just messy and time consuming.

Holy Family final version

These are two of the technique trials in trying to come up with the final version of our family Christmas card 2009.While I liked the ideas for both, they were very time consuming for making 40 - 50 cards. I had been given the suggestion of trying the gold next to the Rich Razzleberry, which I really liked, but wasn't quite satisfied. I finally decided to put the Holy Family on the Top Note Die and 'paint' the edge with the Rich Razzleberry. This is a bolder edge and really adds color and outline between the Whisper White and Brushed Gold. I've also achieved the goal of adding to this card without adding to the postage cost. My Digital Studio Calendar

Since I am now officially Certified in the use of My Digital Studio after lengthy training, I thought I might do some more 'playing' with it tonight. I decided to try making a calendar for my family. I've really only done the front cover, but I wanted to show you how easy it is to use this program. I'm using the 'Design Your Own' template, but if you want something quicker, there are other templates already set and ready for you to personalize. The program template is set to use both sides of the paper, so that it flips up just like the ones you buy in the store. The best part is making this suit your own needs. Special dates can be entered, your own holiday schedule, etc. Your family will love seeing the pictures and other special embellishments that you add. I plan on printing this myself, but professional printing is available at a reasonable cost and doesn't take forever. Are you interested, but don't want to take the plunge just yet? Holy Family

This is one of the cards we did earlier this week at Card Club. The Holy Family and star were embossed in Gold on Whisper White Card Stock and backed with Brushed Gold Card Stock on Whisper White Base Card. I highlighted the edges with Brocade Blue just to add a little color. I'm thinking of ways to step up this card and using it for our family Christmas Cards for this year. What do you think? What would you do to embellish this card. I don't want to add a lot of bulk with brads or ribbon. Too much can add to the cost of postage. Leave me a comment with your suggestions.

A Wish For Peace

A Wish For Peace, I think, embodies what everyone wants, and usually that visual picture includes trees, a church, and a dove. This stamp set has them all. The Petals-A-Plenty embossing folder outlines the picture, and the Dove is raised for a different perspective. The sentiment is stamped on the inside of the card. We're making this card at Card Club Tuesday night, but I can also demonstrate this card for you and your friends at a workshop. Just think, you could earn the supplies to make this card! Maybe not all of them, but a lot, anyway. Call me to book a date. There is still time before Christmas!

Top Note and Daisy Die Card

Looking for something bright for a birthday? This one is sure to fit the bill! Another demonstrator shared a similar design on a yahoo group, and I decided to adapt it to fit a color scheme for my Card Club hostess next week, and she likes purple. This should work, don't you think? I used two top note die cuts, and two coordinating colors for the daisy die cuts, only using the large flower on the die. The center of the flower is cut from the Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper. I used the word window punch to cut out the sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes and mounted that on the modern label punch. The ribbon is the Rich Razzleberry Polka Dot In Color Ribbon. Keep checking back for sneak peaks into the projects we'll be doing.

Pennant Die and punch Santa

Isn't this just the cutest Santa? When I bought my Big Shot last year and joined the Big Shot Club, one of the classes was making this cute Santa! He is so easy to make and takes very little time. The hat is made using the larger Bigz Pennant Die. The face is using Blush Blossom Card Stock. The eyes and nose are cut using different size circle punches. The cheeks are accented with Blush Blossom ink, and the top of the hat and beard are made using the scallop punch. On the back of the hat's top is a circle punch attached using a Stampin' Dimensional. You can then tie a ribbon or string beneath the circle punch to hang Santa. This just may be one of the projects we make at Card Club Tuesday night. Since Thanksgiving is next Thursday, many people start displaying their Christmas decorations. What better timing? Glitter Ornaments

Do you like to create your own Christmas decorations? The ornament pictured here was submitted to Stampin' Up! for a demonstrator challenge. Isn't it beautiful? I'm looking for some clear ornaments to try and create some of my own. There are only 3 basic items needed to create beautiful ornaments. The clear ornaments, of course, are the base. Next is your choice of re-inker color followed by glitter. There are several steps involved, but they look so easy to make. When I get some done, I will definitely share them with you and give you more detailed steps.

Card Club is next week!

Can you believe that next week is Card Club already? Time is flying by much to fast! Christmas will be here before we know it. We have one or two openings for the 4th Tuesday of the month Card Club, so if you know of anyone that might be interested, you may bring 1 guest, one time, at no charge. If your guest decides to join, he/she will be following the same guidelines as the other members. This is a monthly commitment with a minimum $15 purchase in Stampin' Up! merchandise. The great part is all the cards and projects you get to make each month. 5 each month gives you lots of cards to use. You are welcome to duplicate my designs for personal use.
