RAK (Random Act of Kindness)

This morning, I was feeling a little blue and worrying about what will happen in the next few weeks if our income is slashed due to the State's budget cuts, especially in the Adoption Subsidy, but also some of the social services our children and many others receive here in Galesburg and around the state. When the mail was delivered, I had an envelope with a Virginia address that was totally unfamiliar to me. Upon turning the envelope over, I discovered a little notation on the back (LNS '09). I immediately cheered up some because I knew that I had just received a RAK! A RAK is one of the many things encouraged by a group of the Late Night Stampers. It stands for Random Act of Kindness. These ladies randomly choose a name from the address list of the group and send them a card. They can also be sent for birthdays and anniversaries, but being chosen for a random kindness is truly special.

I'd like to share the poem she enclosed:

Here's a RAK from me to you
I hope indeed, this much is true...

As you opened this card A smile came to your face

Since I was thinking of you In a far off place

I hope in some way
I've brightened your day
And you feel good about YOU
As you go on your way.

Isn't that beautiful? Thank you Nancy Dawson from Madison Heights, Virginia!

Make someone smile today. Send them a card as a Random Act of Kindness. You'll be glad you did!

Upsy Daisy Emboss Resist

What is Emboss Resist? This is a new technique I recently learned by watching other demonstrators. Using white cardstock, stamp the image with VersaMark and then emboss with clear embossing powder. When cooled the embossed image will 'resist' other ink.

Using a sponge and your favorite Classic Inks, sponge the colors around the image, starting in the center and working out. The colors will overlap and that's OK. This card used the new In Colors from Stampin' Up!, Soft Suede, Crushed Curry, and Rich Razzleberry. A rainbow of light blue to dark blue, with a dark embossing can be used to create a 'night' background, or blues, greens and yellows can create a daytime background. I've seen it done several ways, all with a striking effect.

The rest of the card, of course, used the new In Colors as well. I started with Rich Razzleberry cardstock for the base of the card, Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper on the top and Crushed Curry on the bottom and white ribbon wrapped around the center. This is topped with stamped image on Whisper White cardstock and again backed with Rich Razzleberry with the corners punched out. It really is much simpler that it looks.

Contact me for more details or to book a class or workshop to make this card. I can be reached at (309) 221-0978 or e-mail tmustain@grics.net.

From Our Hearts

Ever heard of "From Our Hearts"? These are a group of Stampin' Up! Demonstrators that collect card fronts and cards for the troops. How, do you ask? Click on the link above for more information. They ask anyone that would like to help, to send cards to them to be forwarded to the troops overseas. They also collect donations to help pay for needed shipping supplies and for the shipping costs. I'm thinking of doing something similar locally. I have a cousin serving overseas, and I know several people in the community with relatives also serving. If you would like to help this wonderful group, just click on the Title above. The website is www.fromourhearts.info. The families and friends of these soldiers would love to receive these homemade cards.

Teacher Retirement card

A few days ago, I posted a card made by my daughter, Elizabeth. I promised when one of the other kids made a card for this teacher, I would share it with you, as well. Jessica chose the colors in this card and the design (with a little guidance from Mom). She wanted Bashful Blue and Pacific Point colors. The ribbon is died using a Pacific Point ink pad, so it's a little darker than using the die mixed with water in a jar. The stamp set is from the Sale-A-Bration Congrats set. The embellishment at the bottom starts out by punching a scallop circle in the top of the card. The flower is from the Pretties Kit and died using Pacific Point ink and attached to a Pacific Point scallop circle with a blue jeweltone brad and attached to the inside of the card, lined up with the punch on the front of the card. I hope the teacher likes all her homemade creations.
Don't forget to make your wish list of all the retiring stamps, Decor Elements, and accessories. June is going fast and this is your LAST CHANCE to get these. Many of the accessories are already sold out. Call me or go online to place your order.

New In Colors are coming!

The new In Colors are coming! The new In Colors are coming! To the left are two samples I made using color combinations from the new catalog. The colors shown here are Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry, and Melon Mambo. The stars and accordian flower are made using the Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper. I consider these the 'bright' colors of the new set. I don't have the designer paper using the other new colors, but I'll work on cards for those colors in the next day or so. I'll be ordering some of the new stamps in a couple of weeks and should receive them just in time for the introduction of the new catalog on July 1.

Until then, remember that many stamps and accesssories will be retiring at the end of this month. This is your LAST CHANCE to buy them. Many of the accessory items are already SOLD OUT!

ONLINE SHOPPING is available for your convenience 24 hours a day/7 days a week. So if you're browsing through your catalog and you just can't wait to place your order, just log on to www.twilamustain.stampinup.net., sign in, and you're on your way to having creative and relaxing fun.

Last Chance Lists

Today marks the beginning of the final month for the 2009 Spring-Summer Idea Book & Catalog. During the month of June, you have the opportunity to purchase stamp sets and accessories that will be discontinued on July 1. So, if you've been considering a stamp set, now is the LAST CHANCE to buy them on Sale! Click on the link above to get a list of the stamp sets that are retiring. If you like Decor Elements, click on the link to the right. There are also many accessories that are retiring. Many of these are already sold out, so hurry while supplies last! Call me for a list.

A BIG HINT: ALL of the papers and ribbons that have IN COLORS are discontinued. Why, you ask? The IN Colors are only around for one year, and the New In Colors will be available on July 1. I've already ordered a set of the new colors, and am anxious to try them out. So far, I like what I've seen and I think you will, too! Call me at 221-0978 for more information.

Did you know that besides the last chance lists, there is another HUGE promotion? This one is good for a hostess only, and only during the month of June. Host a workshop with sales of at least $250 and you could earn extra hostess dollars to spend. Call me!

Until then, Happy Stamping,
